In 2013, Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon was launched and became a huge success as the first all-ceramic chronograph in Speedmaster history! However, more than a decade later, Omega finally gave the Dark Side of the Moon a complete update at the end of last year. Omega's original "Dark Side of the Moon" watch was powered by the 9300 movement. Launched in 2011, this new generation of automatic chronograph movement was developed specifically based on Omega's exclusive Co-Axial escapement. It featured a silicon hairspring, vertical clutch, column wheel, and a practical quick-set time zone function. This year's four new Dark Side of the Moon models include two automatic chronographs that upgrade the 9300 movement to the Master Chronometer 9900 movement, a Moon Grey model using the 3869 movement, and a Dark Side of the Moon model using a manual-winding 9-series movement.
Currently, all Omega men's automatic chronographs are around 15mm thick, especially the older automatic Die Dark Moon model, which reached a thickness of 16.14mm. Frankly, this thickness is somewhat burdensome for everyday wear. Therefore, Omega has not only reduced the thickness of the automatic Die Dark Moon to 15.09mm, but also made the manual-winding red-hand version only 13.02mm thick. This 13mm thickness not only makes it comfortable for everyday wear, but also makes it the thinnest Speedmaster Ceramic watch with the 9-series movement. In terms of aesthetics, the black ceramic case, with its satin-brushed and mirror-polished finish, has a warm and lustrous sheen, like black onyx. The striking red central chronograph seconds hand is like a red lightning bolt illuminating the dark universe. This red is not the bright red often used in Speedmasters, but a more subdued rouge red, so the red and black color scheme doesn't clash, but rather achieves an elegant and harmonious look. The 9908 movement used in this watch, as the manual-winding black version of the 9900 movement, naturally inherits all the advantages of the 9900 movement except for the automatic version, such as Omega's exclusive Co-Axial silicon escapement, quick-set time zone, and Arabic-style Geneva stripes decoration. In terms of performance, its certification level naturally reaches the highest level of Master Chronometer standard. In addition to being able to withstand strong magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss, the timekeeping error has also been improved to 0 to 5 seconds per day, and it also has the same 60-hour power reserve as the automatic movement. What surprised me most was that after the matte black finish, this movement became so cool and futuristic, as if it were a brand new movement. Although the list price of this manual red hand 115500 is exactly the same as that of the automatic all-black Moon Dark Side, it is obvious that this red hand version is more attractive.
